So basically, WotC will release a core ruleset in 2024 for the 50th Anniversary of D&D, but Ray Winniger stresses in the video that it will be compatible with 5E. Most likely it is just an expensive collectors item, possibly with some new art and optional rules added. But we will see as time approaches.

There were some reports that WotC had announced 6E, but that did not happen. At least not yet.

I can confirm that something is in the works, but not 6E. I'm a WotC playtester so I get advanced stuff sometimes. Got an e-mail from WotC today that said:

Not many details otherwise but it looks a lot like 5.5 or so, probably taking some of the material from later books and putting it into the core rulebooks.
