Never could get into The Dresden Files books. I don't have a clue why as one of my favorite series was right up that same ally, Simon R. Green's Nightside series. I love those books and TDF books give me just that sort of vibe, enough that I bought two of the books read one and then just wandered off never to return.

The first two in the series are a bit rocky, but the series' growing pains are pretty much worked out by the third book (Grave Peril).

To contribute something WITHIN CONTEXT...

Me, not reading much fantasy, in general, I am afraid - except when I do:

Glen Cook is about one of the only fantasy writers I really enjoy. His "Dread Empire" series, I love like few books, regardless of genre.
With the third tome right now, easy to say, the best fantasy I have read in years.

Other than that, slowly working my way through the Dexter series of novels; an easy read, but a bit disappointing; mostly, the books are like any regular serial killer crime story, with the sensational outline (what makes Dexter Dexter  ) playing too little a role. Still, I am happy to own the entire series. Smile

50 pages in on A DANCE WITH DRAGONS by George R.R. Martin. I'm enjoying A Song of Ice and Fire but I wonder if it will be completed...

edit: swapped "with" and "of" in title; d'oh!

I'm reading a savage worlds rpg book,Battle for Oz.

I know it's not exactly a novel but I am reading it just because it looked cool. I don't plan on running it. My Savage world guys are too wrapped up in Deadlands.

Also the wife picked me up Wicked (sorry don't know who by at the moment) that I will read after this one. I think it's about Oz but not sure.

Battle for Oz is really good reading and it looks like it would be a lot of fun to play. The bad arse little munchkin with (I think) a cigar and crossbow had me wanting to play a munchkin!

Also Strawmen assassins, undead Pumpkin warriors! This thing just screams The Game of Oz Thrones.

Donna Tartt - The Goldfinch

One of the best books I read in a while.

My guilty pleasure of the moment is "The Lies of Locke Lamora", and the whole "Gentlemen Bastards" series.

The premise is rather cheap - it essentially being a fusion of my beloved "Thieves World" and the Italian episodes from "Assassin's Creed" - but I find the novels reasonably entertaining, and even pretty original. What they understandably NOT are, is to be very deep. Smile

Last night I just finished Mistborn: The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson. I'm definitely reading more of his stuff next but I don't know if I will continue with Mistborn and start The Well of Ascension or dive into Words of Radiance and then come back.

Decision - The Well of Ascension.

Sanderson had 'Oathbreaker' available for free through the iBookstore a while back. Not sure if it's still free these days, but it's another of his works out there Wink
