Havard's House Rules: Alternate Character Generation Rules
#1
Here's an attempt at an alternate version of creating a character in Dave Arneson's AiF.

Ability Scores
I use the following Ability Scores
Strength
Dexterity
Intelligence
Charisma
Health

Comments: I am ignoring the optional ability scores of Stamina and Knowledge at this time. Whenever the rules refer to Stamina, use the Health score instead.

Generating Base Abilty Scores:
Roll 1d% for each ability score. Reroll any results of 30% or lower.

Determine Ability Adjustment
New House Rule: Abiltiy scores have two numbers, a Base Score and an Adjustment Score. Ability Adjustments are determined by this table:

1-5: +1
5-10: +2
11-15: +3
16-20: +4
21-25: +5
26-30: +6
31-35: +7
36-40:+8
41-45: +9
46-50: +10

etc.

Comments: In most cases when a character wants to attempt an action, roll 1d% below the Adjustment Score+Training Bonus+Level. More on this later.

Hit Points
In my house rules, we generate Hit Points a bit differently.
Hit Points are determined by adding 10 + Strength Adjustment or Health Adjustment (whichever is lower) + 1HP / Level.

Comments: This will generate a number between 18-31 for starting characters.

I like those house rules.
I sporadically blog (mostly) about role-playing topics at The Semi-Retired Gamer.

Currently reading Dave Arneson's True Genius by Robert J. Kuntz.
