HackMaster 4.0: A Day in The Life and Level Advancement
#1
A Player came up with an idea. Looking for answers to nullify this.

In HackMaster (as well as 1st Ed AD&D) racial limits are hard limits for advancement. So if your an Elf, you can't go beyond level 12 as a Thief (2 more if your not multi-classed).

However in the Spellslinger's guide there is this spell called "A Day In the Life", which means you can have all the attributes of another race for 24 hours, such an Elf could opt to be Human for a day. Still, it takes weeks to train for leveling so this would normally be negated.

If you mix the "Exception to Formal Training Requirement", which cancels the schooling, such a character does NOT need to spend weeks in training, leveling is immediate.

Therefore the Race Limitation to Levels is hereby negated by Player manipulating the rules and this spell.

Does anyone have a counter-argument to this munchkin?

I didn't realize HackMaster used level limits. I dislike such rules personally. Having said that I think your player has been a clever munchkin and probably should be allowed to get away with this tweak. Smile

However, he would probably have to cast the spell again for each level he wants to gain above his level limit.

If you wanted to be really cruel about it you could say that once the spell ends any benefits from being above the level limit will also be removed since they are features of another race?

This is what I was thinking, but if they go back to human "for a day" (or whatever race allows them the extra level) they should get their extra levels back Wink
