Amethyst, The Princess of Gemworld, returns in a comic book called Sword of Sorcery.

I didnt really know about this character before, but I do remember a reference to the Gemworld in the most excellent graphic novel Books of Magic by Neil Gaiman.

Gemworld was pretty nice comic. But this is quite darn exciting news beyond that - a fantasy comic arted by Aaron Lopresti. There was some dipping into the fantasy genre in the Simone/Lopresti Wonder Woman run and his art worked very well there. Won't probably buy this as single issues, but a trade is quite likely.

And it's always nice to see any fantasy comic that isn't an adaptation of a book. Fresh stories Smile

Okay, after couple of issues, I am quite liking this. Nice art by Lopresti, and the story has been quite decent. Nothing special, but rolls well enough. The gemworld is a cool setting, quite much more "childlike" in visual concept, but this is still regular sword & sorcery fantasy and the pointy ends go into the bad guy.

Beowulf is cool (it's seemingly postapocalyptic future setting that has been reverted to medieval trappings, Beowulf is a super soldier, there are "iron trolls" that are in fact Waynetech war drones, so there's some DC Universe hints dropped) in concept, but the story has not been gripping me. Beowulf the character is a proper jerkass, and a maniac, though.

3/5 Saunas for Amethyst, 2/5 for Beowulf. Amethyst is worth a read, and Beowulf comes tacked on to it, so there's no reason to read that one too.

Marvel gave Journey Into Mystery for Lady Sif (of Thor fame). So there's another hawt chick with sword -comic around from the big two. Just read the first issue and it was pretty cool. Nice arts also. I'll give it a few issues to see how the story starts developing.

And neither book - Sword of Sorcery or Journey Into Mystery has notable amounts of Tits & Ass. While there is nothing wrong with TnA, it's from time to time refreshing to read about a female heroine presented in less sexist ways.
