[PL Spoilers] The Throne of the Gods
#1
The table of Legends from the FFC lists the "Throne of the Gods" as one of the legends. No location is given for this particular legend.

Interestingly, I found a legendary item called the Throne of the Gods in Supplement IV: Eldritch Wizardry:

Quote:This massive gold-inlaid throne was crafted by an ancient race in honor of their gods. It is carved into the heart of a mountain and cannot be moved, even magically because it is still a part of the mountain. Anyone seated on the throne will receive at least one item of magic, but can only be a recipient once. Also, he who sits on the throne, can use and is subject to the powers of the throne.

Possible powers include:

Clairvoyance, Telekinesis, Speak with the Dead, Teleport, Charm Monster, Death Spell, Locate Treasure, Gem of Seeing, Poison Gas, Raise Dead Fully

Where could this item be located? Given the name "of the Gods", could it be linked to the City of the Gods?

Another legend lists a Throne of the Skies. Any connections between these?

I am afraid that I don't recall finding either of those in Svenny's adventuring days. Sorry, I can't give you any details.

Difficult to know for certain since FFC was published in 1977 and Edritch was published in 1976, but I think those rumor tables date from 2 or 3 years before EW (1973-75). Meaning it probably wasn't the same throne as in EW. Mabey the idea for them was something somewhat similar to the Throne of Growth on level 6 of BM dungeon, only they were located in other dungeons, or maybe it was some reference to the egg of coot, since that was the last thing on the list above them and the egg does have a throne room.

Yepp, that is the way I read it, too.

On another note, I somewhat interpreted it as the CoG's commando seat.
You know, where BM's Kirk and Spock sat.

Smile I will then eventually send you a list with the topics we better don't delve into for now;
or put spoiler tags in the thread titles for you, if that's okay.

Interesting theories Dan! I could easily see TSR snatching this idea from some of the material Arneson submitted for Supplement II?

As far as to what Arneson may have intended it to be, it could be anything really. It might even be something he never fleshed out, just kept as an adventure idea that never came up?

Yeah that makes a lot of sense. maybe the throne of the gods is in the city of the gods and the throne of the skies is.... somewhere else. Maybe one of those two moons Greg mentioned.
