Dangers of the elder world
#1
I made a similar topic in The Piazza, but I guess posting it here would be fitting as well.

I'm searching for a kind "great danger" that may have troubled the world of Blackmoor in its younger days. Something like the orc hordes of the North in the Forgotten Realms, the darkspawn of Dragon Age, or a demonic invasion or Far Realm incursion, or something.

Is there any information about something like that in canon?

Edit:
Oh, it seems I evolved to a Freeholder at last!

From my campaign:

Cthonic Era/"The Long Winter"
Sar Aigu
The Sleeping Ones as an ancient evil, linked to the Egg of Coot and the Cthonic Age.

Age of Dragons/Old Stone Age
The Sleeping Ones
Brute Men
There is also the character of Keres which I linked to the murder of the god Temrin.
Garls
Gakkarak Tree Folk

Age of Giants / Early Bronze Age
Giants of Castle Hammerfire (my creation, extrapolated from various d20 Blackmoor books).
Giants

Late Bronze Age/Rise of the Thonians
Giants (declining)
Valemen
Peshwa

Iron Age (500)
Temple of Id
Westryn Elves
Peshwah

Mage Wars (800)
Red Mages
Sorcerers
Orcs
Temple of the Frog (Pre-Stephen)

Hope this is helpful Smile

Well, how long ago exactly are we talking?

In ages past, there was a great reign of fire per the Pygmalian story

Some 600 years + in the past a character known only as "the mad wizard" rules Blackmoor. The destruction of his laboratory is so violent it creates the wizards pit. (I personally tie this story to an event described in Quag keep involving the dragon Lichis)

Someone, probably the mad wizard, also crafts the three crowns hidden in Tonnisberg.

Next comes the cult of the ID and the Bloody Duke.

There are also repeated invasions from the Peshwah at this time, and a few from the Skandaharians.

Then, of cousre, there are the mage wars. If I know what time you are looking at, I might could come up with more.

So he would have been the representative of Chaos who summoned/created the "great demon" Ironnose?

Correct, and his destruction by Lichis is the event behind the Wizards Pit IMC. I also identify Lichis with Ingselleth "Father Dragon". Makes for a tidy story.

Well, the players are researching stuff from before the colonization of Blackmoor. Perhaps something from the so-called Age of Dragons.

Havard has provided a lot of good ideas, thanks Big Grin

Glad my ideas work for you!

It also occurred to me that since the period is called Age of Dragons, a good enemy for PCs during that era could be....dragons? Big Grin
