Cross posting from The Piazza:
Quote:In Blackmoor MMRPG Episode 3 (pages 5-6), Robeir tells the tale of the Cumasti witch-sorcerer and master of fiery death, anciently living in a stronghold somewhere in the forests outside of Jackport and defeated by an order of arcane warriors.
Do we know (maybe from another MMRPG episode or from other canon) who is Tellert? Is his defeat part of the Mage Wars?

Not sure, but I suspect he is from the MMRPG only. I dont recognize the name from any of the books.

Is he mentioned only in MMRPG Episode 3?

In
Episode 3 we can read about Tellert:
Quote:This stronghold was actually lead by a cumasti sorcerer blackbones known as Tellert. I hear that Tellert during his lifetime was already corrupted and despised as a witch-sorcerer. His hatred of good led to his pyromaniacy and later his status as a master of fiery death. There was battle I hear, probably lead by an order of arcane warriors. The death pyres were pushed deep into their stronghold and sealed within and left to smolder in their own burning hatred.
However, in The Redwood Scar (that is linked to MMRPG
Episode 5) we have, in
Appendix 1, New Creatures, the description of a creature (corrupted by the scar just like all other creatures in this appendix) called
Blackbones:
Quote:“Blackbones” is a template that can be added to any humanoid creature with an affinity for fire magic who completes the transformation ritual described below...
...
A character wishing to become a blackbones must be a spellcaster capable of casting at least four spells with the Fire descriptor or dealing with fire. The character must prepare...
...
At the end of this time, the character must immerse himself in the oil and cast a Fire spell to ignite it. Once the flames burn out, the character’s charred skeleton rises up as a blackbones.
I never noticed this possible connection between these two episodes before... despite the fact that they are so close in the episodes list...

In the Redwood Scar adventure there is also this example of a Blackbones:
Quote:Blackbones as Characters
Blackbones retain the same favored class as they did in life. Any class abilities are retained in undeath.
Sample Blackbones
Vallin Tefferti
3rd-Level Cumasti Sorcerer Blackbones Medium Undead (Fire)
The similar name is suspicious or it is just a random similarity?

I think you are clutching at straws here, but Tellert certainly sounds like a fascinating character!

We know that he was defeated by an order of arcane warriors. What are the options?
Any Faction of the Mage Wars
The Red Mages
Ordo Elementarum
Quincke's Brigade
The Wizards Cabal
The Eldritch Underground
Others?
He is referred to as a Witch Sorcerer, so the Wizards Cabal is a possibility, although since he was "anciently living in a stronghold" it seems like this must have happened before the Cabal was formed. I like your theory about the Mage Wars.
This could also be tied to some parts of elven history if we wanted to.
Does the adventure offer more information about his stronghold?
