The Abbey of Fitz(-Martin?)
#1
Crossposting from ThePiazza:

Quote:The Abbey of Fitz is just across the river from Vestfold in Blackmoor.
However, I just came across this: The Ruins of the Abbey of Fitz-Martin by Thomas Isaac Horsley Curties (1805) https://epublications.marquette.edu/cgi ... ish_gothic
It is something I don't know. Did you ever heard about it? Is there any connection?

EDIT: here https://larocheworldlit.wordpress.com/2 ... in-tropes/ you can find a quick summary and comment of the plot.

Very interesting find!

I think the Abbey of Fitz was even missing from some of the Blackmoor maps in the ZGG maps.

Both Dave Arneson and Gary Gygax were apparently very interested in English medieval history. This was where St. Cuthbert came into Greyhawk and also where Clerics with only blunt weapons were adopted by Gary.

Dave Arneson specifically modelled one of his scenarions after the bBattle of Bbannockburn.

Could the Abbey of Fitz be a remnant of something similar? I originally assumed it was named after a player...

I am sure Svenny passed thru there, but I don't recall any specific adventures there.
