The strange case of episodes 56 and 58
#1
Do you know the mystery of episodes 56 and 58, that "never were written"?
I'm curious to know why we have two numbers with no episode to show...

I think this was simply a mistake in numbering, but it is possible that the adventures were comissioned, but that the authors never completed the mods. Maybe someone with more inside info on the MMRPG knows more?

Could be worth asking Dustin in his Q&A thread. Smile

The original Episode 70:

Episode 70: Shattered Thoughts
The shipment of precious metals from New Pebbletown has been delayed for quite some time. King Uther's army needs those metals for the war on the Afriditi. Can stalwart adventurers figure out the reason for the delay. ATL 9-13

The original Episode 58:

Episode 58: The Brass Menagerie by Daniel Gray and David Brainard
It is commonly believed that one should put their loved ones before themselves and their family before their work. What does one do then, when they've lost all they've loved and their work is all they have left? A Dave Arneson's Blackmoor adventure for levels 1-8 (ATL 1-7).

The original Episode 56:

Episode 56: Dungeons of Castle Blackmoor Deeper Still
Conversion of the published Dave Arneson’s Blackmoor Adventure: Dungeons of Castle Blackmoor for higher level play. A call has gone out for only the bravest of adventurers who are foolhardy enough to enter the dungeon of Castle Blackmoor. A Dave Arneson’s Blackmoor adventure for PCs levels 7-13.

I've actually toyed with the idea of completing a supplement for the DoCB book that would allow MMRPG characters to play deeper levels in the spirit of Episode 56, since it never came out and we had the number reserved, but I never got around to it. If Jeff's sequel to The Redwood Scar ever comes on, I'll reconsider doing it again. Smile

I was part of the Blackmoor MMRPG staff back in the day and these were what we had down on our "forthcoming list".

You're welcome. Smile

PS Episode 83 may have also been "missing", as I have not come across a copy of it, but I do have the blurb:

Episode 83: The Coming Storm by Brian Gray
Blurb: Tucked into the Stormkiller Peaks, the settlement of Ironholm has caught itself an unusual beast, and they don't know what to do with it. However, where little creatures are found, their parents may not be far behind. Ironholm may not survive when Papa comes looking for his only son. An adventure for APL 3-7
