This time we had a combo pizza, hold the pepperoni.
Games are on Tuesdays sometime around 5:30PM at World's Best Comics, 9714 Warwick Blvd Newport News, Virginia 23601.
++++ PREFACE ++++
After returning from the 2nd level of Hell and a short excursion in the Dr. Who universe, the party was returned to their starting point at the former Temple of the Frog, which Huang decided to rename to Catan.
The following was not an adventuring session. Due to lack of threats to hearth, home, kith, kin, or the kingdom the party figured they had time to perform the various "leveling-up" procedures. Of note there was nothing much to report, except that Huang was a Monk, and in order to rise above ninth level he had to defeat in combat ten levels of Monks. Either one tenth level Monk or a combination thereof equal to ten levels. I opted for one tenth level Monk that I named "Anti-Huang" since it was easier to clone Huang's statistics and raise make him a tenth level. We debated having a side adventure of travel so in order for Huang to find a tenth level Monk to defeat but decided against it. I thought it would make more sense as the aspiring Monk "should" have to seek out his advancement opportunity. Whereas any prospective defender shouldn't have to go out and about defending his position. We discarded that idea so we could move along.
++++ START OF SESSION ++++
Codecils agreed to prior to the match:
1) Not to the death. (75% damage is temporary, 25% damage is permanent.)
2) No magic allowed. (Rings, bracers, and other enhancements removed.)
3) Combat to be bare handed, no weapons.
What follows is the round by round summary of Huang's advancement duel:
Round 1: Huang gets initiative at 1, Anti-Huang had initiative of 10. Initiative going to the lowest roll. Huang performed 30 foot leap towards his opponent (complete with strings as if it were the movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon). And performed "Distance Death" Monk maneuver and failed. Anti-Huang responded with a "Paralyze Touch" and failed.
Round 2: Huang got initiative again. Attempted tried "Pain Touch" and succeeded, accompanied by further die rolls inflicted a penalty of negative three on Anti-Huang's future die rolls for the next four rounds. Anti-Huang responded with two fails using the "Stun" maneuver.
Round 3: Anti-Huang got initiative and failed with a "Paralyze Touch". Huang returned with a success on "Distance Death" again but failed on the "To Hit" roll. (Both rolls need to pass for this to work.)
Round 4: Both side rolled the same for initiative, meaning combat results would be simultaneous. Huang succeeded with "Distance Death" maneuver and also hit, causing 40 points of damage. However Anti-Huang stayed up on a Threshhold of Pain Check and both returns of the "Paralyze Maneuver" failed.
Round 5: Anti-Huang got initiative and got Huang Paralyzed for 2 rounds with the maneuver of the same name.
Round 6 and 7: While Huang was down for the count, Anti-Huang inflicted 39 points of damage on Huang. The Pain penalty on Anti-Huang stops.
Round 8: After Huang recovers from Paralyzation, he gets initiative and inflicts a critical hit on Anti-Huang and achieved an instant death result.
Since the combat was not to the death, it was presumed the critical hit result was not real and the Anti-Huang didn't die. However Huang was declared the winner and he was able to raise to the next level.
