[Blog] D&D Next Covers Revealed
#1
Over at WotC's website the covers for D&D Next have been revealed. As XStarkillerX notes at The Piazza, the announcement also includes release dates for the three core books, the starter set and new adventures. It is surprising that so little bravado accompanies this announcement. Perhaps they are assuming that bloggers and forum posters will do the job for them? Big Grin

Although the images are fairly small, I dont see any mention of "5th Edition" or "Next" on the covers. The new style should ensure that these books are not confused with previous edition products however.

What do you think of the art?

And on CNN: http://edition.cnn.com/2014/05/19/tech/ ... h-edition/

Quote:In D&D, the brainchild of creators Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson, players could become fighters, magic-users, and clerics, and run through adventures created by a "Dungeon Master" or "DM" -- the person responsible for controlling nearly every aspect of the game.

CNN did not forget Dave. Smile

Glad this moves on. Do you know how silly the word "Pathfinder" sounds when pronounced with a German accent?! Big Grin

See, in the words of my players, we've been running "zhe Danjon Crevel Klassik Rol Pleing Geim" for the better part of this year.

Time for some less tongue-wrenching business.

I'm not a fan of the new artwork. I have the Starter Set and am basing a lot of my opinion on the product and not the photograph. Perhaps when the PH or DMG come out I may revise my thoughts on this, but at the moment they aren't very inspirational.

(1) It's not as vibrant as much of the older AD&D covers, like the 1E Player's Handbook or DMG. Those covers were simply awesome.

(2) It seems to minimize the name of the product too much. WotC is trying to repackage the iconic brand name in the RPG industry and it's like they don't really want anyone to know what it is. I'd like to see "Dungeons & Dragons" or "D&D" larger on the cover.

(3) They should have released more product faster. Too much wait time in between the Starter Set and PH. My local game store wants to support 5E but there isn't much to put out on his shelves. Put out a module or something.

Just my two coppers.
