Act 1, Scene 1: Summoned to Palace!
#11
As you make your way down by the courtyard you hear a blood-curling scream. Diving through the door near by, you find yourselves in a kitchen. A figure, wreathed in flames, staggers around the room as various servants vainly fling water at it. After a few seconds the fiery figure collapses. The cook turns to you: "It's Janas the page. He just ran in here clutching his chest and flung himself on the fir" she says. The boy is dead. Though shocked and mystified by the tragedy, you prepare to leave. You can do nothing here.

You are led straight down to the stables to choose your horse. While you are preparing to leave, tall Igraine approaches. Her voice is low, almost inaudible, and you understand how she came to be called "the Silent". She tells you that she has valuable magical items which will aid you on your journey and bring you the luck of gods. They are pomanders of rare herbs - if worn around your necks they will also remove your need for sleep. It is passed up to you by Igraine's servant, a poor deformed creature who shuffles slowly and weards a hood, no doubt to hide his piteously ugly face. Igraine quietly wishes you a safe and fruitful journey. Bundling togrthrt your possessions, you hurry into the bustling courtyard. With no time for ceremonies, you mount your steeds and pick your way through the crowd to the gate. A swift ride to Vestfold's west gate. In front of you lies The War Road: a road that in the times of the old king Uther was so often travelled by marching armies and legendary war heroes, such as the Great Svenny, but during king Ewan days the brightest young people of Blackmoor preferred instead becoming great merchants, rather than great warriors, the kingdom relying more on diplomacy than on warriors, to guard its borders. The relationships with the Thonian Empire were this way restored, to the point that Lady Desideria herself, the most fair wife of king Ewen, was a Thonian noblewoman, but the barbarian tribes, so often fought by king Uther, were kept at bay mostly by mercenaries.

Before riding west, please let me know how you want to carry Lady Igraine's pomanders: on your neck, in your backpack, or in any other way.
Then we'll be able to move to Scene 2, the proper start of the adventure :-)

Ewart Oakeshott thanks the lady Igraine for her kindness, and places the herbs around his neck.

Before she leaves, he also asks her if she about the quest of Hector the Invincible, and whether he might have departed in the same direction that Ewart and his companions intend to travel.

Igraine the Silent replies briefly: "Hector the Invincible has taken a very long path for his quest. I don't know where he is now, but I guess it is a very far away place."
