Blackmoor Miniatures Return in 2013!

When Dave Arneson's company Zeitgeist Games announced that they were relauncing Blackmoor back in 2003, the company Lance & Laser obtained the lisence to produce miniatures for the setting. The miniature line included Ash Goblins, Beastmen, Afridhi, Thouls and other classic Blackmoor creatures. I posted more pictures and details about these miniatures in this blog article.

Now the old Dave Arneson miniatures are due to return thanks to Armorcast LL:

"All of the old Arneson Select molds and masters have been purchased by Armorcast at www.armorcast.com. The miniatures will be re-released during the first quarter of 2013.

This could be my chance to finally get my own Blackmoor miniatures! Smile

Nice. Smile

But does this mean there's more on the horizon? or, is the Arneson Select line just "a line of miniatures that look suspiciously like the monsters from Blackmoor",
or are is armorcast.com actually in possession of any sort of license? - Because if Wizbro is changing their polic on the license, I'll shoot them a mail faster than you can say "hobgoblin"! Confusedhock:

Hehehe, lamentably, no chance in hell that they give it out.
HELL, WotC keeps sitting on the rights of DRAGONQUEST, and one can well say that the buzz on that one is gone since before I entered kindergarten.

On a more serious note, there MIGHT be possibilities to do something akin to making OOP available in 2013 or 2014, but it will not be related to anything under Wizbro's IP.
No teaser intended there - Flying Buffalo supposedly owns the rights to at least SOME Arnesonian writing; pestering them should bring way better results than asking Wizbro,
especially since they have recently discovered kickstarter.

A rerelease or a new edition of Adventures in Fantasy are not completely out of the question, if people put some work into it.

They cannot market the miniatures using WotC owned trademarks, but they can still sell miniatures in the exact same casts as the Blackmoor line. This happens a lot in the miniatures industry.

Probably they will be marketed under generic fantasy names, although Beastmen, Goblins and perhaps even Thouls would be fair game.

Smile Thank you for the info. I figured so. Smile Good to see this, though. When the first wave of the minis got published, I think many missed out on them.

"Thoul" is a full on TSR-ism, I think.

Just got this confirmed by Armorcas LLC:

Quote:To clarify we do not have the rights to the Blackmoor name, to use Mr. Arneson's name nor the specific creature names but we own the master sculpts and the molds. The miniatures will be released as generic fantasy miniatures.

I haven't been able to figure that out yet, though some of their current miniatures are pewter. Not sure if all of them are.

That said, I used to hate plastic miniatures back in the 80s, but the kind of plastic miniatures you can get from say Citadel today have a much higher quality. Smile
