Jon Peterson's Book and Scans
#1
I know several of you are already aware of the news of John Peterson's new book about the history of wargaming and roots of RPGs, but as it has special relevance for Blackmoor I think it deserves a thread here as well.

Grodog posted on Canonfire (and other places) about the scans posted by Jon Peterson from The Domesday Book #1 and The Blackmoor Gazette and Rumormonger #1 on his blog. You can also find more info on his book from his blog.

I am already finding new details about the Blackmoor Campaign and its characters so this is really interesting, as Peterson has had access to sources like the Domesday Books and Arneson's various newsletters.

£22.50 on Amazon in paperback.

Too expensive, I'm afraid, although the Kindle version at £11.32 is a possible.

It won't be top of my 'to buy' list for a long time though, to be honest.

I'm going to get a copy ASAP to see what is in there about Blackmoor. Anything FFC-era and before is sort of my own personal "holy grail" of Blackmoor gaming. 8)

While not focusing on Blackmoor or D&D, you guys might enjoy this book about RPGs as well:

As I repeat to the viking ever so often, the serious scientific dialogue about RPGs is currently in full blossom.

Curious how he seems to have come out of nowhere. Maybe he has a presence on the Acaeum. I don't hang out there, so I wouldn't know, but it will be interesting to see how much of his research extends at all beyond the printed/collected material. In any case it is damn satisfying to see so much material finally being brought to light.
