Nystul and the Duchy of Ten
#1
A while back I was looking at ways to use the Greyhawk version of the Duchy of Tehn in conjunction with Blackmoor. This is when I learned that the Wizard Nystul was a native of that land in the Greyhawk Setting. From what I understand, Nystul was never a character played, but rather named after the spell Nystul's Magic Aura, which in turn was named by Mike Nystul.

More information is found on Nystul in GH Wiki entry and we have been discussing this topic over at the Piazza Greyhawk forum.

Any thoughts on using Nystul in a Dave Arneson's Blackmoor campaign? 8)

Speaking of which,
there is now a Kickstarter project for Nystul's Infinite Dungeon. 8)

For those curious, it is being made for Pathfinder/Osric.

I guess this was eventually funded. Does anyone know what happened to it?

I was a backer for this, and while the project isn't quite done yet, backers have been given access to the content of the book already. Supposedly he's just waiting on the completion of a few bits of art and layout.

Ah, that is good to know Aegir! I was worried that it had been published and had already fallen into the out of print category without me even noticing.

Anything you are allowed to share from the contents that you have access to? Is this worth looking forward to? How about the possibility of using it with the Duchy of Ten or Blackmoor in general?

It goes into a fair amount of detail regarding the region around the dungeon, which is an island covered in corrupted jungles and swamp, with some hilly regions mixed in. I've yet to see any maps so I can't say for sure, but in that way it sounds like it'd fit better as one of the islands of Loch Gloomen then Ten.

So far I'm seeing very little about the dungeon itself, the book seems focused on describing the area around it and its background. Its a pretty interesting and detailed background, but if you're looking for a dungeon setting then you might have to wait until the next installment(s) (this is suppose to be a series of books).

Interesting!

Since the focus is on the Island for now, it might make more sense to place it somewhere in the North Sea or probably better in some southern waters given its climate.

I guess the link between Mike Nystul and Arneson's world is fairly thin anyway since it is just the Nystul character that has been given a role in Greyhawk's Duchy of Tenh. Mike Nystul never played in Blackmoor for instance.

And I imagine most have heard by now: it seems Mike Nystul has basically spent the entirety of the Kickstarter money he gained from all three of the campaigns he ran (roughly $75k) and has completed none of them. He's basically come out and said that odds are good some, if not all, of them are going to be delayed indefinitely.

Odds are pretty good the preview version I and other backers got several months back is the closest thing to a completed product that theres going to be for a good long while.
