This is a better trailer than some of the earlier ones I've seen. Things are looking better and better for the JC movie! 8)

Agreed!
Blackmoor fun fact: The Sandfolk living near the Valley of the Ancients are likely based on the Martians from the John Carter series. Fan speculation has suggested that these Sandfolk were brought to Blackmoor by the FSS Beagle from a nearby planet. -Havard

I'm really bummed about the fact that the JC movie appears to have lost huge piles of money. I heard that it will be one of the biggest flops of all time, unless somehow sales pick up in a hurry.
I think Disney really dropped the ball with marketing. No fast food movie tie-in toys or collectable glasses, no RPG or CCG or board games, nothing really spectacular to go out and buy. At the same time, lots of folks I know tell me they saw the trailer but can't really figure out what the movie is about. Disney seems to have assumed that people would already know who John Carter is, but it's not the ready-made audience they expected. (I think changing the title from "John Carter of Mars" to "John Carter" was a bad move. At lest "of Mars" sounds sci-fi.)

Probably the best movie from Disney since Pirates of the Caribbean I. Quote:At the same time, lots of folks I know tell me they saw the trailer but can't really figure out what the movie is about. Yeah, I really liked the first trailer, but in alot of the marketing they focus on the arena battles and the white apes, which really play an almost insignificant part in the movie. Good point about the "Mars" part missing. -Havard

I've seen JC three times now and it's just as good the third time as the first. I agree that it's the best movie from Disney since the original PotC.

It was actually a pretty good flick, even if the Mighty Whitey theme is slightly out of date.
But apart from that, genuinely enjoyable. Not a milestone of cinema, IMO, but entertaining, and as faithful to the books as a 21st century teen movie can be. |
