Secrets of Blackmoor Wrote:Did Gary Gygax create it all as urban myth would state, mostly created by Gygax's own writings in the dragon, or is the story of RPG's more complex and involves many hands to craft it?I think that this is a huge part of why the story is so commonly accepted with Gary carrying the D&D banner and Dave supplying confusing ideas somewhere along the line. Gary had his company and his mouthpiece through Dragon magazine, while Dave had none of these. Of course Gary's version of the story would be more commonly "known" than Dave's.
Again, I want to advocate no "sides" here since both men were a major part of the creation of this hobby, but it's clear that one voice was louder for a long time and that explains why the story has some inherent bias. However, it's always been interesting to me that early writings by Gary were very much "we did this" and somewhere around the time of the lawsuits this changed to "I did this."
