Hm, yes, that makes sense -- a family crest differing from that of the city/kingdom.

And as far as 'what was done historically,'....? Why should we let something like history or even -- dare I say it -- FACTS get in the way of what looks cool or works in the game?

Hehe, well sometimes its nice to at least know how much you are diverging from reality But some noble families control more than one town so it does make sense to have a different crest for each...
