Okay, I'm hoping he'll pitch in later on then!
I did some reading up myself last night. It seems like officially, the split occurred after an alliance between Men and Elves had been formed but when the humans then betrayed the elves, the Westryn were the elves who felt they could never forgive the humans. The Cumasti sought to reconcile the races, but the king of the Westryn cursed his people.
The current Black Queen of the Westryn is the daughter of this king. Of course, with the long lifespan of elves, setting these events almost a century back might be just about right.
I'm trying to reconcile this with the Maiden's Timeline, but it seems like there's a slightly different spin to the story there. Looking at events which may be relevant, the alliance between elves and men could have been against the Red Coven?
