Maybe it took that long for Keres to figure out exactly how to tap into all that power he absorbed (just because he had the power of a God doesn't mean he knew how to properly use it), but one of its side effects was agelessness (not to be confused with immortality). But to keep the fact a secret, he pulled a Highlander and moved on when he finally got too "old" for people to not notice he wasn't aging anymore. Change the name, become a new man (maybe two or three times if centuries past), and at some point he finally figures out the secret and boom... ascension.

The biggest issue here is that while Keres is clearly a purely evil character, capable even of deicide, Khoronus is a very different character.

I like the Highlander idea though. Plentty of ideas to pick from here. Thanks!
