Actually in your article I got hooked by the sound of Keres' name and guessed a link between Keres and Khoronus.
This is also due to the fact that you state that Keres absorbs the power of the god of time in his body - and Khoronus (aka Chronos) is just another "edition" of the god of time, if you think about it...
Thanatos (maybe not so much at Burrowers war era?) is often very good at "suggesting" evil deeds froom behind the scenes... maybe he was behind the assassination plan: I don't think that a mortal on his own can put together and deliver such a good plan to murder a god... or not?
