I am reluctant to answer to that, not because I would try to be diplomatic, but because, at the end of the day, I would not like to put words in people's mouths.
I know that Mr Arneson was a scandalously underrated writer (as were Jeff Perren, RJK, and Don Kaye, btw), but I wouldn't be able to comment in detail how
much that really takes away from Mr Gygax, if at all. I like to think though, that it was more a clash of personalities than really an intentional theft of intellectual property.
Now, what I myself have observed is that the tone used by Mr Gygax and his associates was simply inadequate, no matter what their objective point in this was.
I am inclined to believe the people that don't use hate speech of whatever kind to get their arguments across, if you know what I mean.
