Wizards might be playable for a few levels, until the insanity catches up with them. Then they become NPCs under DM's control. Technologists could be represented by Eberron's Artificer class, I think. As Asimov's Third Law states: any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic -- just make the Artificer's infusions the work of his remaining Blackmoor tech.
