The copyright just insures that the text contained within the documents is owned by Zeitgeist/WotC, so if you were to quote it somewhere, you would have to give credit and/or ask for permission.
The files themselves were always intended for free distribution to fans, so you can still find many of the episodes out there on the internet if you search by episode number and name.
No one will get into trouble by downloading or copying the files. That would be like telling a publisher they can't give away free copies of their books because they are copyrighted - the copyright (for published works) is intended to protect the owner of the contents, not the actual media it appears on or in.
