I used to think that these three classes were based on the BECMI Monster Spellcaster Classes. Although in the ZGG books they can also be selected by human PCs, they represent "primitive" culture spellcasters.
In BECMI the classes were:
Wokan
Shaman
Druid
I used to think they would correspond to:
BECMI Wokan: Wokan
BECMI Shaman: Elderkin
BECMI (Monster) Druid: Idolater
However, now I'm not so sure. Especially in the 4E version, Wokans (Primal) seem closer to Druids. Elderkin (Divine) are clearlt based on Shamans. Idolaters (Spiritual) are tricker, but I suppose in theory they could be like primitive mages?
Any thoughts?
