In the FFC, John Sniders holding is said to have been covered by a yellow mist which no one ever comes out of. I presume that this event occured when John went into active duty, but in any case, I don't know of any mention of this in later material. Where is this land of yellow mist?

If you are asking about where Johns holding was, it is marked as Bosero's tower on the DA series maps. It is found just north of the Dragon Hills.
(See excellent replica by Dave L)
However, if you like me, are thinking that the Mists came from another place, making that the Land of the Yellow Mists, then that is a different matter. Personally I like the idea of the Yellow Mists being related to the mists either of Ravenloft or of the Mists in Castle Amber....
By the way, what is John Snider's story? He went to Vietnam as well? IIRC the death/disappearance of John's character happened around 1974.

Recently asked John about his characters (Bosero’s) death:
“.. the adventure is vague I recall getting killed while holding on to my trusty keg and hacking away in a berserk furry (someone/thing cracked the keg .. that wasn't to be allowed). Other than that I can't recall the rest. “
Me: What the deal was with that yellow mist?
“The mist .. now here I may be wrong (was going into the service at the time) .. but Dave was preserving the area for me so, again if recall correctly, my magic still without care, overloaded. At least that is what I discussed with Dave but do not know if that is what he explained or used to explain to others.”
Me: In your territory, I'm wondering if you had a city or castle or tower or stuff like that or just a hut in the wilderness kind of thing?
“If recall correctly it was just a modified hut that was mostly brewery with other attachments (morning drinkin room, afternoon drinkin room, evening drinkin room .. stuff like that).”

Isn't this referenced in... I think it was "Test of the Warlord", from the Mentzerian D&D Companion line?

Ah, CM2 Death's Ride? It features a black cloud covering a barony. Could easily be adapted to Bosero's Tower if one wanted to...
