What is "The Regecy Council"?
#1
I've had a look around for a thread explaining what The Regency Council does, but can't find one.

Do you perform a similar role to The Whitestone Council (the group at Dragonlance Nexus) or the Seeker High Council (the group at Beyond the Moons)?

Or is the similarity in names just some sort of co-incidence.

The Regency Council is the name of the Moderators of this forum. The name is from Uther's Regency Council, which is made up of the King's Barons as well as the rulers of the demihumans who collectively work as Blackmoor's governing body.

So I guess we have a bit of a more limited role than those other groups you mention. I think all of Blackmoor's fans should be part in promoting and developing the setting though Smile

BTW: Good to see you here David! Now we know this place will have enough acitivity Wink

Thanks for the confirmation. It is a great name, by the way.

It is a shame, in a way, that your orgnisation is just the moderator organisation. I think that Blackmoor could so easily have turned into a World of Blackmoor boxed set that a bunch of uber-nerds (er I mean committed fans  ) could do the sort of thing that Dragonlance fans did with their Adlatum Campaign Setting.

ACS took something that was mentioned in DL canon, but not explained and ran with the idea. Given that BM has been "shut down early" more than once, I bet there must be a ton of loose ends.

Zeitguist Games, Goodman Games and Code Monkey Publishing have done good stuff for Blackmoor, but they are mearly commerical organisations and are limited by stuff like licences and the financial bottom line. Fans can go beyond that sort of thing...far beyond it...and attempt to do stuff that takes ages or a ton of manpower.

This is where "nerdpower" beats capitalism. Capitalism has fixed targets, and things that can't hit those targets get canned. But fans can choose to bring back projects from the dead or keep shovelling effort into something that other people might give up on.

I've been talking on The Piazza (in the Spelljammer forum) about Robert S. Conley's sandbox tutorials. They are pretty grognoid and would seem to fit in well with older BM stuff. But even with the new stuff, they would seem to provide a structured method for fan expansion.

Capitalism can throw money at development, but eventually the capitalists have to pack their bags and go home. And when that happens the fans can continue to chug away and keep the world alive.

No, no, no, no. I do not have 8 arms like you do. This looks like a great place, but I don't have the time. Confusedhock:

I'm staying a Serf. Mark my words.

Hmm my "Rank" just changed to "Self-appointed Serf" and I don't see any more of those in the Memberlist. I suspect foul play is at work.

Hmm. If you wanted to "mark my words" couldn't you just have given me a score out of ten or something?

While the Regency Council are moderators and perhaps take an extra responsibility when it comes to making things happen for Blackmoor, I would love to see more people involved in the latter. We have enough moderators, but we can never get enough people talking about Blackmoor and coming up with ideas for the setting etc.
