Why Does the Wizard Cabal hate Sorcerers? Why are they hunted nation wide?
#1
Ive been doing some reading of the modules and came across in Ties that Bind in the ZTG book that in the adventure it says that Sorcerers are hunted down by the Wizard Cabal. Why is that? Why are they outlawed?

According to the 3e sourcebook, is because sorcerers are born with an innate ability to cast magic, which means most of them lack the training to control said magic. Added to that, when they reach certain age in their adolescence, their magic manifest as a powerful explosion of energy that can destroy a small village. The unpredictability of their power and general superstition makes them feared and hunted by even their own families. The Wizard's Cabal hunts them down for "the good of all".

The 4e sourcebook add warlocks into this group as well, but for different reasons: they are magic users who use their magical powers for their own purposes (and make deals with forces not everyone understand), and so they are hunted as well. The Wizard's Cabal derisively calls them "sorcerers", as for them sorcerers and warlocks are the same thing: a troublesome magic user.

During the Wage Wars (about 200-300 years before the classic timeline of Blackmoor, the one with King Uther), the Sorcerers and the Wizards Cabal fought a terrible war against each other. The Cabal strongly believes that Sorcerers are innately dangerous and must be confined to protect the populace.

As an update to this, in the Age of the Wolf book, it's revealed that Skelfer eventually grow tired of the Wizard Cabal's injustices and returned to the world once more and destroyed the Cabal, with only a handful of wizards surviving and retreating to Bramwald. So, in the end, the Cabal's zealotry came to bite them in the rear...

That's awesome to learn and i can't wait to cover that in my Lore videos when I cover Skelfer himself.
