This game one of the Players bought the pizza for one Honor point. Forgot what the flavor was, there was at least sausage.
Games are held on Tuesdays after 5PM at World's Best Comics, 9714 Warwick Blvd Newport News, Virginia 23601.
++++ START OF SESSION ++++
After destroying the large rocks which turned out to be eight HackMaster monsters called "Bowlers", the party was faced with two passageways going North that were streaming pebbles at a constant rate. One of the party members with an underground skill determined the passageways would only be safe if party members went through quickly single file.
Discarding that idea, the party went back the way they came. Shortly after they passed the "T" intersection of the laboratory they came from, the laboratory collapsed.
Entering another chamber with a pool, they prodded another character they had recently raised from the dead "Arnold", and told him to "Go investigate the water, c'mon!" "What's the harm? It's only water?" Of course Arnold gets killed again by the newly hatched* Death Watch Beetle, and Elefus has to raise him again after defeating it.
* Newly hatched, meaning it was lacking it's primary kill power. Dangerous nonetheless.
Dusting themselves off, the previous "T" intersection they just passed also collapsed.
Next they came to a deep chasm about 40 feet across. Taking time to investigate some climbed, some flew down the 150 feet down to the bottom. A cursory examination finding 10 pounds of semi-precious stones worth 20 gold pieces. (Oooooh, shiny!) I think they were collected by Kmaregh, but if not I'll be corrected.
From the next chamber they easily heard the sounds of frantic digging by a large bullet shaped creature with an armored hide (a Bullette). Going as quietly as they could, they tiptoed behind it. I think Elefus may have had to use his Winged Boots of Flying, otherwise the clank, clank, clank of his armor would have been unmistakable. (Half points for not killing it in any case.) At this point they heard the chasm room also collapse, thus distracting the creature away from them.
Moving on they arrived at another "T" intersection, so they all turned Republican and went to the right and continuing some 100 feet they started to hear the noise of a mining operation. Turning around a bend they saw a little Goblin in the distance, holding up a torch and peering at them. Rather than kill it off hand they reasoned amongst themselves, and decided to talk to it, encouraged as they were by its excited waving encouraging them to come in their direction.
The little fellow introduced them to his boss, the large 7 foot tall muscular Bugbear called "The Agnor". He cordially shows them around the room which has another entrance opposite the side they came in. To their right was a crumbling brick wall and to their left was a pile of rubble where 4 other goblins with pick-axes were digging supervised by 5 other Bugbears.
Explaining he has been cut off from the rest of the mining operation by the collapsed rubble The Agnor asks: "Would you like to join the miners union help us get out of here? I'll pay you 100 gold pieces per person and it would really speed up our exit."
As if to punctuate his offer, they hear another collapse from hence they came.
Not wishing to offend they respectfully decline and offer instead to excavate the crumbling brick wall opposite his frantically digging Goblins. If they could only borrow some pick-axes.
"You can't do that." The Agnor told them.
"Why not?" Kmaregh asked.
"You're not union members. I can't let you have the tools."
The party thought for a moment, since union membership outweighed the cost (none stated). They all decided to join. (I handed them all union cards. Again only half points for not killing them.)++
Easily breaking through the brick wall they came into a soundly constructed 20 by 30 foot room with a door on the other side marked with an obvious red and yellow glyph. Opening the door, they found the same glyph on the other side of the door. Someone decided to decipher it and successfully translated "Join the Union!". (It was also determined that non-union members opening the door would get 2 dice of explosive damage.)
After the party went through this door, the room where the Bugbears were supervising the Goblins collapsed. So much for union membership.
Continuing down the hall to another door made of featureless murky crystal and finding no door handle they decided to push it inward smashing 3 angry skeletons in the process. This is where Priests of a gawd come in handy, Elefus turning power as a high level cleric disintegrated them outright. Finding four casks of wine, Huang chugged one. Elefus took one, Kmaregh took two.
Down the next hall and to the left they came to another door, unlocking it they found a worm eaten dilapidated library where most of the books were rotted. Getting themselves organized to search the books, the party arranged themselves against the shelves and were immediately beset upon by Rot Grubs. Most of the party avoided the grubs with flame, Honda, Krazzek and Dick, (Dick was the other Assassin who joined up with Lucky. Actually the character had no name but we decided to call him Dick at this point). Like in the African Queen the Rot Grubs could be burned off at point of entry by fire. (But none of the party had lit cigarettes.) Special_Ed cast a "Burning Hands" spell on Krazzek, fixing him for minor damage.
However that left two characters infected at opposite ends of the room: Honda and Dick. It takes two rounds for a Rot Grub reach a victims heart resulting in certain death and Elefus had the only cure, his "Staff of Curing". Taking the five segments to pull it out of his Bag of Holding that left only one round to make it to one character and expend a charge. He chose Honda.
Poor Dick. Elefus had run out of Raise Dead spells.
As a side issue, Elefus also discovered his Staff of Curing also cured insanity. Thus several charges were also expended to cure the rest of the party.
Still it was a library. They had found a few more clues as to the operation of the Freedom Bells.
Continuing on, they made it to one more room containing a "Sediment Golem" which are similar to a Clay Golem and immune to edged weapons and most spells. (Sediment Golems never really caught on with most Wizards as they had a tendency to go berserk and turn on their Masters.) As such the case here, the party had to fight several rounds before determining which weapons worked and which did not. But they soundly defeated it. Afterward, Kmaregh nicked a chest full of 500 Copper Pieces and Weasel ended up with 5 Rubies worth 4,500 Gold Pieces and an unknown Amulet.
Exiting up a wrought iron staircase the party moved on to the next level. Landing on a 20 foot wide hallway the party moved West 130 more feet and came a door to one side. Detecting no traps and opening the door easily, they found 20 belted robes with cowls, 7 Copper Pieces and a brochure for the Hidden Shrine resort inn.
Honda, having been without Armor except her small shield, and by implication running about only in her underwear, took a robe immediately. The party then continuing on for 130 more feet and turning a mandatory right hand corner and 20 more feet came to a 70 by 40 foot corral and two bovine looking creatures with horns.
Seeing it was late we called it a night and decided to deal with Pamplona next week.
