We started off with a Chicken and Black Olive pizza since Daniel wasn't here and Jacob was out sick. (Daniel wouldn't eat poultry and Jacob won't wouldn't have any veggies.) Our beer brand was Grolsch.
I haven't included a party member list in a long while, so the current party members include (in initiative order). I'm not going to list level numbers. Instead I'm going to show the class "Title" for their level. I leave it up to the reader to figure that out:
- Huang_Mao_Xiadong, Human Male Master.
- Weasel, Human Male, Guild Soldier, Magician, & Myrmidon. (Multi-class. How'd a human get that way? Don't ask.)
- Snizzlephish, Gnome Male, Visionist & Apprentice (Multi-class.)
- Mysery Reigns, Halfling Female Killer (not currently Playing).
- Numrendir, Human Male Demander.
- Shinzo_Hayabusa, Half-Elf Male Veteran, Prestidigitator, & Apprentice (Multi-class.)
- Aeon, Half-Elf Male Veteran
- Honda_Toyota, Human Female Bushi
- Elefus, Human Male Deacon
- D'Vine_Justice, Elf Female Initiate of the 5th Circle (not currently Playing).
We left off where Snizzlephish and two crew members had had been charmed and carried off by Harpies. Aeon, Shinzo, Honda and 4 other crew members in the conga line that walked overboard were drowning. Since those below the water could not hear the Harpies' song, their charm was broken.
First item of business was to rescue those in the water. Numrendir used Monster Summoning I and rolled a 7 Shimmering Moss which he designated to appear beneath our descending crew in order to halt their descent or if nothing else would make their bodies easier to find in the murky depths below due to the moss' glow. The named party members made their save versus the moss, while the crew did not. Next Elefus tossed an anchor over the side so those in the water (and conscious) could grab the line. It missed hitting Aeon on the head and he was able to grab it and so did Shinzo and Honda. The 4 other crew members kept sinking and were rescued shortly by one captured Merman who was forced to retrieve them by Weasel's Rod of Rulership. Two crewmen were revived and the latter two were placed in Elefus' queue for resurrection the next day.
In order to retrieve Snizzlephish and the other two crewmen taken aloft by the Harpies, Weasel donned his Ring of Flying, made his saving throw versus the Harpy song and again with his Rod of Rulership, simply ordered the Harpies to return the rest of the unlucky crew and Snizzlephish. The Harpies were deemed to dangerous to be kept captive and released.
A couple of days sailing later, I handed the Players a bag of potato chips and asked them to all start chewing at once. Then I told them that was the sound they hear below decks. The ship was being attacked by Giant Water Termites.
Once again the crew went down to the Bilges to effect damage control. One Giant Termite crawled inside and attacked a crew member. Aeon, Snizzlephish and Honda also went below with the crew to combat the threat. Huang jumped overboard with the Spear of Impalement and missed a Termite but pierced the hull and damaged the First Mate's foot. The captive Merman was commanded again by Weasel's Rod of Rulership to assist and given a Trident. Numrendir made another Monster Summoning I and got seven more Mermen. Snizzlephish attempted a sleep spell on the Termites outside of the hull but due to the Hit Die priorities specified by the spell, managed only to put to sleep two of the summoned Mermen.
During the battle most Termites managed to ignore the attacks and continued chomping on their primary food source (the ship), causing a full hull breach and the ship started to sink. The bilge was fully flooded and the crew attempted one more round of repairs bring the flooding to a temporary halt. This did not last long however and the ship's Hold was also flooded by five feet. At this point the crew could hold their breath no longer and made for the hatches to the main deck. Aeon and Snizzlephish climbed up the mast in order to avoid the inevitable.
Finally it was only by hack and slash the Giant Termites were killed, but only after the Main Deck was covered by a foot of water. Since the Mermen were available, a sail-cloth cofferdam was applied to the hull and the water pumped out. Repairing the ship temporarily. The ship was at zero hull points but could sail, assuming it did not founder, run aground, get hit by a gale, or anything else. Also the cloth cofferdam was not one hundred percent effective and the ship was still leaking, so Elefus summoned an Aerial Servant to man the bilge pump and relieve a section of the the crew.
The next day they were attacked by a Water Hydra. Since the creature was coming head-on they had enough warning to coordinate all their Sunflame Blasters from the previous adventure, and killed the whole thing off in one barrage of Fireballs.
Due to the termite damage the ship could only sail a fraction of speed, but managed to limp into their destination at Port Detroit in a couple of days, as the wind remained steady
Port Detoit is one of the main seaports of the new Barbarian Empire. Since the Party had sailed a strange ship in foreign waters, the ship and her crew was put on quarantine (40 days). However due to the damage, a portion of this could managed in dry dock. Repairs were negotiated with the port authorities. (Even Barbarians have to conduct commerce.) The duration of repairs would take 17 weeks (plus 40 days) and cost 2,667 gold. (It was paid for in gems with an 11% exchange fee.)
Due to water damage the cargo in the hold was declared a total loss as the ship was not insured.
It will be decided next session what the Party will do. Whether to escape quarantine and continue the Adventure or sit it out.
Since at the highest point a foot of water also made it to the main deck where the Captain's cabin and the Party was living, a portion of the Party's possessions will have to be GM assessed for water damage also, including any magic items in Backpacks, Bags in Footlockers and anything else they were not normally carrying for overland adventures.
