Fred Funk's World and Blackmoor
#1
With all the great information provided to us by Fred Funk's players about Fred's World, I thought it could be interesting to see what similarities and differences we can find between Blackmoor and his own setting. It would be impossible, and not too interesting either, to see which ideas he got from Dave Arneson and vice versa, but IMO more interesting to see which ideas flowed back and forth between these two groups:
  • Humour:
The first thing that strikes me is the sense of humour. It is possible that Fred's World is even more humoristic than Blackmoor, but there is also alot of it in the FFC especially.

  • Public Dungeon Tours

  • Visitors from space: Fred had his Guilivernan's. Dave had a number of alien types.

  • The Great Swenson

  • Id: Temple of Id in Blackmoor and the Wizard of Id in Fred's World.

  • High Patriarch of Ho Hum: I will need to check this, but I think

  • Dogs and Frogs: Dogs seem to have been to Fred's Campaign, what Frogs were in Blackmoor. Maybe they played a different role, but still an animal frequently referred to.

  • Dwarf King: While most settings will have one, could this be more than a coincidence?

  • Elven King: As above?

  • Scandaharians/Skandaharians

Thoughts? Did I miss anything?
