Over in the Blackmoor Product List there are a number of products that have never been published:
I've seen a 3e Ravenloft product, that "failed to get published before the end of the licence" but is now available as a freebie download.
I was wondering how likely it would be that it would be possible to "obtain" one or more of the above products to redistribute as a freebie.
Has anyone approached the "owners" of these books and asked about the possibility of "selling them" to the fan community to be published as "unofficial Blackmoor netbooks"?
I'm figuring that WotC are the only people who could "sell" the TSR stuff, but Zeitgeist Games and/or Code Monkey Publishing might be more willing and able to "sell" the titles that they never got around to publishing.
I think the 3e "Duchy of Ten", "City of Blackmoor" and "The First Fantasy Campaign" are good things to ask about, because with 3e being an out of print rule-system, WotC are highly unlikely to ever agree to a licence that would allow those to hit the shelves.
I've just been looking at the stuff on Talislanta.com and have been really pleased that designers (who in some cases did not get paid) have been willing to complete work on unfinished products. I've also been really pleased to see some Warcraft RPG designers attempting to publish fan netbooks that continue their earlier (paid) work. So I think there is a chance that the designers of these Blackmoor products would like to see them reach the fans.
But if they want to try to recover some of their costs (and why shouldn't they) perhaps The Comeback Inn, could set up a fund for people to donate the money needed to turn some of these things into freebies.
What do you lot think?
