The History of the MMRPG
#1
For those of us who did not participate in the MMRPG series, I think there is a lot of curiosity about it, so I thought I'd start a thread by asking a couple questions for anyone who might know the answers:

What were the last episodes to be officially released and actually played at conventions or as part of adventure paths etc.?  Its my understanding that the latter episodes were written but neve released or if they were released it was only on the website for a short time.  I *think* that the unreleased episodes were the ones above #68 but please correct me if I'm wrong.

How were "official" MMRPG games organized by Zeitgeist?  Was it only at conventions or were there regular Zeitgeist games at maybe a game store or something?  Were there "official" regional DM's or organizers?

When were the first and last games played?

Interesting questions, hopefully they will be answered, sooner or later Smile

I can shed some light on these questions:

"How were "official" MMRPG games organized by Zeitgeist? Was it only at conventions or were there regular Zeitgeist games at maybe a game store or something? Were there "official" regional DM's or organizers?

The entire campaign was contemplated after I had joined a local D&D group in the Orlando area called "FRAG". This group played a lot of games but primarily were focused on Living Greyhawk. After gaming with this group for a couple of years, I had realized how engaged and enthusiastic the players were for their ability to just sit down and have a character that joins a party without a long play history with the group. I also noted that these players were willing to travel for events and were effectively ambassadors for the 3rd edition D&D products.

After giving it some thought and learning about the system, Dave and I concluded that a "Living" style campaign would be fun for Blackmoor. I knew many of the folks who had been active in organizing events for Living Greyhawk and even some of the authors of the module content that was being produced and enlisted their help to put the campaign together.

Every episode typically had a "Premier" which meant it was available to play first at an event. The very first MMRPG event was at MegaCon in Orlando where we premiered the first four episodes and also held an "Interactive". The Interactive is a one time event. You're there or you not. All of these served to bring lots of players to join in the fun. Dave was present for the Interactive and was quoted humorously with the line "Never eat a rabid squirrel!".

After episodes had premiered, they would be packaged and then made available on the website some time past the premier date.

To be honest, I don't recall where we had finally landed on episode count or the last released episode. I'm fairly sure nearly all of what was written was released (and shared with these boards).

Hope that sheds some light.

It was a great conclusion!
A "Living" style Blackmoor campaign can be really great fun!
