Chapter One - Missing

tarlyn Wrote:De Casteels looks to Niyef. "Young lady, have you anything to add or say? I get the impression you are holding back."

Niyef blinks in response, looking at the man askance. "You must know why I am here in Mordent. And you must also know that I must find the one I am looking for. I do not intend to leave loose ends here in Mordentshire when I return to Barovia." She glances at the drink in front of her for a brief moment before once again addressing Balfour.
"Your cause is just, no doubt. I will aid you. Though in exchange I ask for information from your network of informants. If you agree, I will do whatever I can to help you."

Tromo is startled by the revelation: "An Outsider!!!"
The owl is spooked for a moment and start flapping its wings.
"So the stories are true..."
Tromo reassures the lovely owl with a gentle stroke of his hands, then quickly grabs a piece of bread from the table, dips it into wine and offers it to the animal on his shoulder: "Here... have some..."

"Very well, I am sure you are all wondering why I have assembled you all here. As all of you are aware, except for Miss Melora perhaps, an earthquake shook the lands not
too long ago. Slightly before this, several of my acquaintances have gone missing."

He pauses, looking at Melora with a reassuring smile.

"I am very curious to know more of your city and where you hail from, Miss Melora. In case none of you else know, a city appeared north of Mordentshire almost as if by
a miracle. Out of the blue to be precise. It coincided with the earthquake here which I deem to not be a coincidence. The reason I have gathered you all here is to investigate
the earthquake and as well, find my missing acquaintances. Some of you might have heard of Dr van Richten and George Weathermay. The third person is a dear friend of mine Fenrick Buerle. Rudolph and George are Hunters but Fenrick is but a scholar and minor illusionist. All three were last seen in Barovia, in Krezk."
Lot nods his head solemnly, saying: "I am your humble servant."

The elder man claps his hands and several servants enter from a door behind his seat with platters of food. They serve you plates of different delicacies, prepared
to perfection. The meal is very filling and satisfying.

Once finished, De Casteeles speaks as you enjoy your after dinner beverages, whether it be coffe, tea or liquer.

"I would expect as Vestfold is closer, you would investigate there first, then move on to Krezk. I will provide you with a credit note for your trip to
Krezk. Please enjoy the evening. I am happy to have met you all and spent the evening with you."

A servant enters and hurries to the elder man, whispering something in his ear. He remains passive as the man speaks before leaving. He stands.
"Please excuse me. My presence is required elsewhere. Good evening to all. I shall see you all again in the morning." He tilts his head and nods, before
taking the door and exiting.

Lukasz makes his choice of strong coffee and liquour, and nods politely at Casteeles in thanking.

As the man leaves, he looks around, savouring yet another cake, and says: "I take we are to spend the night here, so he can meet us in the morning?
Maybe we can spend the rest of this evening learning the basics about each other, and planning our foray into Vestfold, no?"

After overfilling himself at dinner and overindulging after the food is finished, Tromo takes off a small flute and starts playing it for everybody's pleasure.

"Very well," Melora says. "If any of you have questions, I will answer them, as best I can. I have only lived in Vestfold for a few months, though, so I do not know all of the city's secrets."
