I need to pick up the Alternity Settings... -Havard Re: LotFP adventure from Monte Cook! - finarvyn - 07-11-2012 No doubt that Monte is a busy guy with lots of cool ideas. For a while I had toyed with running Ptolus, his massive city campaign. I had been reading the updates on his webpage and finally one year at GenCon I bought the thing. It's freakin' huge. Makes the DCC RPG seem light. Never got around to running Ptolus, but love the concept. Re: LotFP adventure from Monte Cook! - RobJN - 07-11-2012 Havard Wrote:Dark•Matter is made of pure win. Great content, and the book itself is gorgeous. You can get a feel for it through the Dark•Matter Fast Play rules. "Exit 23" is a really great 'ice breaker' (pardon the pun) adventure that captures the "feel" of the setting.RobJN Wrote:Monte Cook also worked on the modern-day Alternity Dark•Matter setting, with Wolfgang Baur. Re: LotFP adventure from Monte Cook! - Rafael - 07-11-2012 My beef with kickstarter is really just, how much of this is "promises", and what really happens when something doesn't work out? Like, I sponsored an Appendix N adventure project that includes, what, five or six different documents. While I am not regretting my investment, I would be very surprised if we really got all of what was promised in the end. Any experiences there? - Note that I am doing my own project, and staying away from kickstarter. Re: LotFP adventure from Monte Cook! - finarvyn - 07-12-2012 Le Noir Faineant Wrote:Like, I sponsored an Appendix N adventure project that includes, what, five or six different documents.Knowing John Adams, I would be very much surprised if we didn't get all that was promised. I can't speak to kickstarters in general, however, and have no idea how reliable most folks are in this. On the other hand, I look at the fact that years ago I preordered an Amber Dicless supplement and Amber Tarot French-English translation that never was published by Phage Press. Those kinds of things aren't "kickstarter only" issues, as many gamer types are big on vision and small on execution. They usually mean well, however. Re: LotFP adventure from Monte Cook! - Rafael - 07-12-2012 Oh, that wasn't meant as a slur towards BHP; just a general question. I am just pretty weary of all the hype that comes with kickstarter. I only support BHP because I know them as reliable. But some of the other stuff out there, and, oooh, there's plenty, NAH. Re: LotFP adventure from Monte Cook! - Havard - 07-12-2012 I have never invested in any Kickstarter project (or similar), but I am glad that the option exists because it allows smaller publishers to raise the money before actually publishing their material. While you wont know that the material in question will be published, Kickstarter (unlike IndieGoGo, apparently?) gives you back the money invested if the project isnt realized. (although some money may be lost through transactions, PayPal policy etc) Sure you are paying for a product you havent seen yet, but if this is a product that you really want to see written then you might be persuaded to put some money into it. The added publicity is a bonus. Having people aware of an upcoming product is a good way to open up to an even greater market. -Havard Re: LotFP adventure from Monte Cook! - Rafael - 07-12-2012 If this system proves to work out, I'll happily support other projects as well. Now, this was my first foray into the realm of kickstarter only; if I am pleased with the results, I will surely continue with similar endeavors. |
