Precataclysmic Skothar and the C&C map

Here's a quick mashup of the Castle and Crusades Society map with pre-cataclysmic Skothar.

Nice work! This is going to be very helpful in an ongoing project of mine.

Looking at the Great Bay region, it seems to me that Arneson must have changed the scale of the Blackmoor area along the way. Could he have reduced the size of the Blackmoor area, while kept the rest of the map the same size?

I don't see a scale on the C&C map, so Arneson probably felt like he could make the map any size he wanted. The Darlene map extends from 15 degrees north to 60 degrees north (according to the Glossography, page 18), but I scaled the C&C map to fit approximately between 26 degrees and 66 degrees. Basically, I just eyeballed it to where it looked good to me, so the map above might be misleading.

I can be more precise, though. Here's what the Oerik map looks like overlaid with the precataclysmic Thonia map at a scale of one degree to one degree:

The Great Bay on the C&C map corresponds to Grendep Bay on the Flanaess map, so Blackmoor should fit in like this:

I think Grendep Bay/the Great Bay is the same as what's called the North Sea on the Blackmoor map. The Black Sea is an additional inlet that isn't visible on the C&C map, perhaps because it only formed relatively recently due to the machinations of the Egg of Coot. I think the Far Ocean is the same as what on the Darlene map is called the Dramidj Ocean, and what the Darlene map calls the Icy Sea doesn't seem to correspond to anything on the C&C map - Darlene's Blackmoor and the Thillonrian Peninsula are merged into a single landmass.

Anyway, do you think that scale would work?
