Also, can Gaderon cast another spell while continuing to protect himself with the shield spell?

The shield spell doesn't keep attackers completely at bay - it just improves Gaderon's AC a little. Casting a spell under these circumstances would probably enable the two mummies in front of him for a free attack each.

Greg, sorry to tell you, but a fireball goes off in a 2" radius sphere. Using it on your direct opponent will likely fry the whole party. It's basically a ranged spell, unless you're immune to magical fire somehow. Will you edit your posting and state another action for Gaderon?

Ok, since casting will give the mummies a free attack, Gaderon will just melee. If Gaderon uses the staff of power as a +2 melee weapon, how many attacks does he get?
