Gaderon knows the Stone Shape spell but did not prepare it for this day. He did prepare the stone skin spell, but I don't know what that does. Will that work?

Another option would be to use the limited wish, but again I don't know what the limits are. Would that work? If not, Gaderon would need to take time to study the stone shape spell and, when it is ready, cast it. Dropping one of the other spells he previously prepared at that level. Is that a correct assessment of how he would handle this problem?

Stoneskin is a defensive spell that raises the AC because it makes the skin of the recipient hard as stone, so that wouldn't work. A limited wish spell could easily be used in this situation, but it ages the spellcaster (1 year) and thus makes a system shock roll necessary to avoid death, so it isn't without risk. But with his extremely high CON score, Gaderon's chance to survive the unnatural aging is 97%, so the risk isn't really that high.

What you cannot do in 1st edition is to drop a spell in exchange for another one. Only after a good night's rest or at least six hours of meditation will Gaderon's mind be refreshed enough to take on the task of memorizing new and different spells.

And a wish in this case is, I think, totally out of the question. Those are precious spells, better saved for really dire circumstances.

I updated Gaderon's spells to drop cloudkill and dismissal and add two stone shape spells, just in case.

Stone shape can be rather useful when we're walking inside rocky caves, actually.

I can see that. I had just taken the same spells that had previously been taken, not knowing which ones would be best...

Um, Dismissal might still be practical if we face more demons. Just my two cents
