Eilkhan will let loose with a few arrows from her magical bow at the second gholle.

Kherim attacks. Ahi recedes to the corner of the corridor where he can keep an eye on Kherim and the golem, and casts Prayer, hoping that it reaches as many of his party as he can.

(Please, roll for me. I don't have a functioning brain at the moment)

Round 3: The party wins initiative.

Shouting her warning, Eilkhan quickly fires a bolt from her crossbow at the gholle, but the non-magical bolt scores no damage at all.

With a deafening thunderclap, Gaderon's chain lightning arcs towards the gholle who just turned towards the wizard. With a surprising swiftness, the creature jumps aside, avoiding the brunt of the lightning and therefore only taking 31 points of damage. The lightning then arcs towards the other gholle, striking it directly in the back and killing it outright for 60 points of damage. Then things start to get out of hand as the chain lightning jumps to Elmo and starts to oscillate between him and Sol, arcing back and forth between the two metal-clad warriors. OOC: This requires seven saving throws vs magic for Sol as he's hit seven times by the chain lightning until it finally loses its power and fades out. Good luck, Greg!). As the lightning finally fades out, there's nothing remaining from Elmo than a smoldering heap of ash.

With a howl, the gholle then moves over to Gaderon, attacking the mage with claws and teeth while trying to fixate Eilkhan with its gaze as it closes in. (OOC: The stench of the undead thing now also reaches Gaderon, Eilkhan, and Ahi. Please make a ST vs poison for each of them. Eilkhan also needs to make a ST vs paralyze to avoid the gaze of the gholle.). Gaderon, being well protected by his various magic items, is able to fend off all of the gholle's attacks.

While Ahi retreats to the corner and casts a prayer, Kherim attacks the statue with his scimitar, scoring two hits on it for a total of 28 points of damage. This time though, he's hit in return by the large bronze staff. Kherim takes 11 points of damage by the sheer force of the mighty blow, plus another 10 points from an electrical discharge as he comes into contact with the staff.

OOC: Please keep in mind that Ahi's prayer gives you all a bonus of +1 to all of your to hit, damage and ST rolls for the next 16 rounds.

OOC: Will Sol's Ring of Spell Turning help with the lightning?

ST: (7 * 1d20+1): 11, 10, 17, 4, 11, 7, 17

Sol (assuming he survived) has fallen to the ground and will attempt to get back up and, if successful, pickup his weapons, before deciding what to do next. If he is able, he will move around to the rear of the goulle and continue to attack it.

OOC: THUD! Im an IDIOT!!! THUD! Im an IDIOT!!! THUD! Im an IDIOT!!!

Gaderon unaware of the consequences of his previous spell yells out...

"If the way is clear that way the creature can be flanked... Everyone run on and I will keep its attention turned toward me! I might be able to distract these things a bit!"

OOC: How bad off does the Gholle look because depending upon such Gaderon either casts magic missile to end the fight with the Gholle or shield on himself this round hoping to make himself up to the task of delaying the Gholle and possibly the Golem... He will let the others past but will stay between them and the Gholle and Golem as he can escape fairly easily through spell use he hopes...

OOC: I'm sorry 'bout that Dani, but then Chain Lightning is a devastating spell when used in close combat. There was nothing I could do to tweak the result a bit... To answer your question: The gholle looks seriously but not badly wounded. Remember though that casting spells in melee calls out for a free attack for the opponent as via my house rules.

Kherim will keep attacking the statue, hoping to at least containt its advance for a while.
Ahi shouts for the others

"Be careful with that fireball Eilkhan warned about. Jump away from its path when it comes and let the gholle catch it fully!"

He then casts Flame Strike just behind the golem, so that it catches it but not Kherim.

OOC: I'm hoping that the fireball can out the gholle and still not catch Eilkhan nor Gaderon. Meanwhile, perhaps the Golem can be contained on the other front.
If you think Ahi should help more directly, though, tell me: he can try Turn Undead or a spell on the Gholle instead. Or even beg for Gaderon and Eilkhan to move away and cast sunburst on the gholle. The latter would be devastating on the Gholle, I think, but would blind the party for 1d3 rounds. It's a save vs spell, so Gaderon might avoid it easily, but I'm not sure about Eilkhan and Kherim. Ivid might not be affected because of the walls in the way.

"Elmo... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"

This is the strongest emotional reaction you have seen from Ivid ever since the beginning of your journey.

Ever since you know him.

For a moment, the ranger just stands there, pale from the shock, tears running from his eyes.

Then, he simply drops his bow and quiver, and draws his dagger, clumsily holding it between numb fingers.

"I... I will kill you bastards, one by one..."

Then, his look aims for Gaderon....

Round 4: The gholle/statue win initiative.

OOC: First off, thanks for reminding me about that ring, Greg! A real neck-saver in this situation for Sol. Second, you guys forgot the STs vs the gholle's stench for Gaderon and Ahi. I made these rolls for you, making both saves successfully.

IC: Speaking a silent prayer to the gods that they let him find the ring of spell turning in some forgotten tomb, Sol recovers himself and opens his eyes after being hit several times by gradually weaker bolts of electricity, finding out that he's still alive. The majority of the chain lightning has obviously harmlessly bounced off his body because of the ring. The air around him smells sharply of ozone and the sickening stench of smoke and burnt flesh that arises from the little that's left of Elmo... (OOC: Sol "only" lost 58 points of damage in total. He may run around the corner and attack the gholle next round.)

Then another shockwave of magical energy floods through the corridors, this time accompanied by intense heat. The second fireball from the Sekhmet statue was hurled forward by some unseen force and detonates at the center of the corridors, right where Gaderon stands. Please see the map for the area of effect. Everyone inside, Gaderon, Ahi, Ivid, and Eilkhan need to make a ST vs magic, bonusses for high dexterity are applicable, the +1 from Ahi's prayer is also still valid. Please don't forget any magic items that might be of help here - see Sol... ;) )

The gholle in front of Gaderon survives the flaming inferno, albeit badly damaged and barely able to remain on its feet. Still it attacks the magic user once more, but barely misses him due to Gaderon's cloak of displacement.

Around the corner, the Sobek statue forces Kherim ever backwards by its sheer strength and power. The paladin feels the heat of the detonating fireball in his back and hears the cries of pain of his comrades, but is obviously lucky to avoid the fire. But not the attacks of the statue! Another swing of the massive bronze rod smashes him for 16 points of damage and electricity. Then Kherim strikes back and scores two good hits on the construct for a total of 22 points of damage. From the way the thing looks and moves, he deducts that it probably won't last another round of combat.
OOC: I'll withhold the results of Gaderon's and Ahi's spells for now because I need to know whether they survive the fireball or not. I'll add the shield and flame strike to my next posting, plus their actions for the next round.
