It seems safe to touch the stone slab, and nothing happens as Kherim does so. Knocking on it doesn't give the impression as if there's a hollow space behind it, but then it also might be too thick for that. Kherim finds no opening mechanism, and he's also not able to move the slab the slightest bit in any direction.

"Would I still have my ability to dispel magic, I would try it here", Ahi mentions.

"But then again...", he muses, "perhaps that alcove with the great evil could hold some key for these slabs? Although I expect some trouble coming from out those doors."

Gaderon having remained silent the entire time glances at the others efforts and studies the area closely especially the slab... If they ask for his aid he will help but he does not want to dissuade further progress as he so far see's nothing to note such caution.

Kherim looks a bit disappointed at the efforts to open the slabs.
"There has to be a mechanism somewhere", he says.

He then turns to mysterious alcove again.

"It may be the time to face whatever is in there, after all."
He lights a torch (if he has one) while singing something obsessively in his head so that he won't make sense of any written text (trying not to read anything at all), and then approaches the alcove, just enough to light it and see what is there.

Approaching the recess, Kherim feels the evil wafting from it like a dark wind, trying to prevent him from getting closer. Nearly involuntarily he changes his meaningless singing to murmured prayers to Horus while tiny beads of sweat appear on his forehead. Only one step away from the opening he stops, breathing heavily. Lowering his to get a better look inside, he sees images chiseled into the stone surface at the back of the recess, the likenesses of all manner of bestial things. Ghouls and evil werecreatures are featured mainly, but there are also creatures such as vampires and the like. No inscriptions are to be seen, nor can Kherim make out anything like a door, mechanism or anything else inside the alcove.

Gaderon looks around in the other side trying to help find a switch, examining the walls carefully... He off handedly mentions however...

"If we need to I can disintegrate this slab for us to get past it?"

So distracted is he that he probably pays little mind to Kherim's change in behavior!

Kherim looks somberly at Gaderon, and then the others. Sweat pearls still trickle down his neck and he looks a bit pale.

"I think we have another emergency before, actually."

He waits for his words to have some effect in the others' attention, then continues

"That alcove... there is an evil so strong in there that I can't even get near it. It keeps me at bay. I fear there is some great demon hidden there, it is our duty to destroy it. We need to be at the top of our strengths to do that, but perhaps your disintegrate spell might be of some use, Gaderon. At least to disintegrate the etchings if that is possible."

Ahi listens surprised, abruptly brought back from the problem of opening the slabs.

"You mean there are some engravings there that might he harbouring the evil? I could consecrate the area, but I don't have that spell memorized at the moment..."
, he muses.

Looking over to Kherim and noting the strange play of emotions Gaderon simply nods thinking about the request and perhaps there is some merit to it.

"Very well... I will take care of it if I can!"

Gaderon advances and looking to the writing he is to disintegrate begins casting the spell to do so!

As soon as Gaderon's spell is cast, the whole back wall of the recess with the evil inscriptions disappears into nothingness. And not only that: A large section of the unworked rock behind it is disintegrated as well, leaving behind a perfectly square room of 10' x 10' in size. Kherim immediately notices that all evil is gone from this place.

OOC: That nets you all 2500 XPs.

Kherim almost jumps in happiness as the wall disappears and the huge feeling of doom, that impended over his spirit, vanishes at the same time.
Eager to see what lies in the new room, he advances and looks around.
