"Let's try more rocks", Kherim exclaims.
And immediately goes upstairs to fetch another one for the test.

"Yes maybe the trap works in such a fashion, that when several floor plates are activated, then the trap springs. More rocks would be a good idea."

Sol chuckles and says "Sure..." before going back up stairs to find another suitable rock to toss out on a different section of the floor.

"Once we've tossed in a few, I will then proceed inside carefully, alone."

Kherim looks at Eilkhan with a sudden doubt appearing on his face.
"Eilkhan, can you identify each individual plate? Can you see if there are any markings in each one? Something that distinguishes one plate from the next. For a moment, I had the impression the whole floor was a single plate. Isn't that the case?"

Then turning to the others, he says

"Perhaps throwing the rocks as Sol did is not the best idea. If the rock smashes, each plate will receive a too small weight. We should instead place the rocks, and place them where we would step into the plate, perhaps. Then we should see if anything happens."

Kherim stops to talk with Eilkhan while Sol continues to go upstairs to bring another piece of rock. At this moment, two sets of adamantine steel bars quickly descend at each landing, one each at the outer and inner edges. They crash to the ground with a tremendous force, penetrating the floor this way, leaving each of you barely enough time to jump aside to avoid getting impaled. Immediately thereafter you some kind of mechanism above each portcullis within the ceiling. It sounds as if something locks in place.

Your group is now split into four, with Sol standing alone on the uppermost landing, Kherim on the stairs below him, and Eilkhan, Ivid, and Elmo on the second landing. You're all obviously trapped, except for Ahi and Gaderon who are free to enter the chamber downstairs.

Gaderon examines the bars size, composition, and even how they are framed or positioned next to the wall, and then divides his time to watching around and speaking back to the others making sure to try and notice anything coming during this distraction.

"I have only one spell left prepared that can be used to bypass walls besides my one teleportation, but from the way I have used this spell before and what I know of it I am unsure if I can create a gap that would accommodate the nearest cages escape... It should be 5 wide by 8 high and 10 deep by the kings foot leaving just above or below 2 feet for each of you to maneuver by the bar closest to the wall, though you should be quick about it if you will attempt as I can only keep it so for a limited span. I believe it will work and will try but if it is not a success and there are no other ideas I will need time to prepare other magics... Now unless you don't want me to act, everyone should get ready, for the gap will be narrow, but should passable if I can make it, and time will be a factor so smaller people first and pass what you think may slow you down through the bars before hand."

Kherim yells to Sol

"Hey, Sol, let's join our forces and see if we can raise this portcullis, and maybe block it somehow. Try to find a tall rock and place it by the bars so we have a chance to move it below the bars if we happen to raise them"

While Gaderon is still talking, there's suddenly a hissing sound coming from above and you all see a brownish-yellow vapor quickly seeping out of the crevices from whence the bars emerged and slowly sinking to the ground, obviously being heavier than air. Sol can also see a large vapor cloud rolling down the stairs from further above in his direction.

OOC: Each character has one free action before the gas will be too thick to avoid it anymore. The passwall spell hasn't been cast yet.

Sol replies to Kherim "Sure..." although he is dubious that it will work after hearing that ominous click after the brs fell. Still he is willing to try anything.
