Dani was probably unaware of the fact that the flaming sphere is so large (6' in diameter). Also, it can never appear farther away than 10' from Gaderon which is the reason why he couldn't cast it somewhere else in the room. An unwelcome side effect of Ahi's successful ST is that it unfortunately negates the Flaming Sphere, so it's gone again....

The reason why Kherim didn't need to save was that he could see the sphere appearing and move a bit farther away from it to a place where the heat wouldn't damage him (I notice that this fact isn't well reflected in the placement of the icons on the map, sorry for that). Ahi, casting a spell himself, couldn't move and so he had to save.

K so I won't be able to post until tomorrow, guys. I have a gig tonight and have to be there at 7:30. Sir C, presume Ahi will cast another spell at the blob.

Yes, you have to roll high for STs in each case. The paladin bonus is of no use when it comes to item STs, but magic items generally have bonusses of course.
