Saving Throws: Asterion rolled 17 (with a +4 is 21) :D
Gaderon rolled 11 (with a +5 is 16) :)

Asterion will see if anyone needs any healing; Gaderon will judge if he can cast a lightning bolt safely without hitting anyone in the party.

OOC: Steve sent me a PM with a ST for Eilkhan against the fireball: It was a 15. So it looks as if evyerone made the ST - except for poor Elmo... My rolls for Rafe's characters were a 19 for Ivid and a 5 for Elmo.


Round 2: The fiends win initiative.

With a low rumble, the fireball spreads out in the corridor, engulfing everyone and everything within its flames. While the fiends are obviously immune to the fire, this is not true for you.

OOC: Everyone takes 23 points of damage from the fireball with Elmo taking 46. Since he was lightly wounded before, that leaves him with only 9 hps and very close to death. Eilkhan on the other hand was still badly damaged before this fight if I can trust my notes. This fireball takes her down to -4 hps (since I'm using the death's door rule, true death comes at -9).

After the flames and smoke have died down, you see Eilkhan lying motionless on the floor, badly burned and only barely breathing anymore. Asterion and Elmo look seriously wounded too.

The fiend who threw the fireball at you gestures again, and a crackling wall of fire appears directly behind Eilkhan and Ivid. Luckily for the two of them, the wall's heat radiates into the other direction, but a retreat is hardly possible anymore now.

The other fiend uses some magic too - not a spell but some inner magical ability that works immediately - and surrounds itself with a protective magic, similar to the circle that surrounds Kherim, only that this one holds off good creatures. Seeing Ahi casting a spell, the creature swings its axe at the cleric, and hits him at the shoulder (DAM 14, plus Ahi's dispel evil was interrupted 8-) ).

The fiend's protection aura makes it now more difficult for Kherim and Sol to hit the creature. Only the second of the paladin's two attacks hit this time (for DAM 15). Sol's second attack misses too, but the first one was a hit (for 9 points of damage).

Then two more of Ivid's black-feathered arrows strike the creature (for another 20 points of damage), and now it staggers backwards, obviously severely wounded.

There's absolutely not enough room for a lightning bolt to unfold without striking back at Gaderon.

OOC: My problem is that you didn't state an alternative for Gaderon, Mark, which I only noticed now! So what did he do then this round? Perhaps we can resolve this within the next DM post, so please state within your next posting what Gaderon did this round plus his intentions for the next round. The same is true for Asterion. You said that he wants to heal someone - most likely himself - but will he use a simple cure light wounds spell for this or his staff? Since I don't want to decide, please state this as well when you post his intentions for the next round. Thanks! :)

Ahi laughs out loud, "I can destroy you just as well from the front line as with spells", and uses his rod to smite gourd face #1 (who just hit him).

OOC: C'mon 20, b/c if I can turn ya, I know my rod can hurt you bad!


Dang. Damage for it next, I'm hoping my positives outweigh the prot from good negatives...

Sol will attempt to move past the gourd face with the axe hitting him once as he goes past and then engage the gourd face with the mace. If he can't get past all of his attacks will be against the gourd face with the axe.

OOC: Since Mark didn't post, I've decided to take his characters' roles for the moment so the game may continue. I'll be away for the weekend, and although I'll be able to check in and see what happens, I don't have my gaming stuff with me which means that I won't be able to post 'til monday.

Resolving Asterion's and Gaderon's action from last round: Asterion used his staff of curingand heals himself 13 points of damage. Gaderon had cast a minor globe of invulnerability on himself. As shown on the map, the globe covers an area that also protects several others of your group as long as you stay close to the wizard.



Round 3: The party wins initiative.

With the combined efforts of Kherim, Ivid, Ahi and Sol, the gourd-faced fiend with the axe is finally brought down. Sol also manages to close in on the fiend with the mace and delivers it two blows with Tizona for 13 points of damage.

Asterion fires three magic missiles at the fiend, but they are harmlessly absorbed, most likely due to some inner magical resistance. The same is true for Gaderon's disintegrate spell, which shows no effect too.

The creature in the corner, seeing one of his fellows fall, rises to its feet again and calls out some words in the strange language of the Duat. As a result, a shimmering blue portal opens up in midair between the two fiends.

"More of us will come very soon, puny creatures", growls the fiend with the mace while it swings its weapon at Sol. "Soon your souls will be taken with us to the dark Duat.". With ease, as if the very heavy-looking mace would weigh nothing, it strikes Sol twice for a total of 27 points of damage. The force of both attacks is so powerful that Sol is knocked flat to the ground in front of the creature (OOC: He needs the next round to clear his head and to get up on his feet again).

And jumps over Elmo, rolls up, aims, and sends one well-placed arrow against the demon's head.
