Eilkhan advances ever so slowly, inspecting every nook and cranny she can. No need to be careless. Careless can bring about your demise.

When was the last time that Eilkhan the Master Thief failed to locate a simple pit trap like the one that suddenly opens beneath her feet? Besides a brief moment of absolute bewilderment there's no time for her to think about it. Down she falls before Kherim or Sol can jump for help, and then everyone can hear her scream....

Hurrying to the edge of the pit, both warriors see their comrade approximately 40' below them, impaled on three long iron spears and twitching and twisting in agony.

OOC: 38 points of damage for Eilkhan due to the fall and the spears.

IC: The walls of the pit are lined with strange hieroglyphs that, the moment you notice them, seemingly come to life. A silvery light pours forth from them and rushes up the pit, brightly lightening the corridor for a brief moment and sweeping over the whole group with that same wave of nausea that you experienced only minutes before. The meaning of the writing becomes obvious to Kherim:

"Now the Power of Rahotep bestows its Second Great Curse upon the jackals who prowl through His Eternal House!"

OOC: Please make a ST vs magic at -5 for Kherim to avoid the curse (adjusted by any bonusses that apply).

Without saying a word, Sol pulls a 50' silk rope and grappling hook out of his haversack and looks for a place to attach it so that he can lower himself into the pit to rescue Eilkhan. Assuming he finds a way to attach it, he will lower himself into the pit to get her.

Eilkhan blinks. Ow.... the pain........ She coughs, wincing. That hurts like hell. Best I don't try to move until someone gets down here. The thief quickly realises that she is losing a lot of blood. And she definitely spit up blood more than once. And now she feels quite dizzy.

She thinks she sees shape or form descending into the pit. She can't be sure as her vision is blurry and she can only think of the pain right now. Well there's nothing but the pain, really. "He--e-e-llo? OW! I don't think I'm in good shape, whomever you are. And ...... cough....cough.... sputter I'm no healer, but cough.... cough" she grits her teeth but that doesn't help much to soothe anything "is it wise to cough... cough... pull me off if you don't know what you're doing?" Then she begins laughing and crying, mumbling to herself. The pain is way too much for her now and she weeps openly, incoherent.

"Damn you evil one," Ahi curses under his breath as he helps Sol find a way to get down. "Does anyone have any kind of levitation magic?" He asks out loud as he reviews the curative words and rituals that Neith had given him this morning. If he notices Kherim's inner struggle, he'll keep an eye on him as well.

As soon as the nausea has left him again, Gaderon jumps over the edge of the pit and gently floats down next to Eilkhan where he remains hovering in midair. Helping Sol to free Eilkhan from the spears, the mage then takes the nearly unconscious and moaning woman in his arms and slowly levitates upwards again. "Quick, Ahi", says Gaderon as he gently places Eilkhan on the floor of the corridor, "free her of the pain."

Leaning against the wall next to the pit, Kherim clasps the golden Horus amulet in his hands and murmurs prayers to the Avenger. His eyes are closed and his face is pale and covered in cold sweat. Breathing heavily, the paladin feels that the curse that he and his fellows have unleashed, has left something behind, a seed of evil within himself, which is a terrible and almost unbearable feeling for someone like him.

"Let me see if I can remove it again from you." Asterion, who has quietly approached Kherim, places a firm hand on the shoulder of the paladin. "Gentle Isis, great mother, take away the taint of evil from this brave servant of your son." Firmly grasping his holy symbol, the half-elf then casts a spell and places the silver ankh on Kherim's forehead.

Kherim feels the benevolent energy flow through him from the ankh. It immediately relieves him from the weakness that the curse has left. Feeling his strength returning, he nonetheless notices that - deep inside - there's a small piece of darkness remaining.

Sol climbs up out of the pit and coils his rope while studying the other side of the pit for a place to throw his hook so that we can use it to cross over the pit into the unexplored part of the tunnels. On finding a likely place, he will try to catch it with his hook and then cross over to the other side. He will then perform a cursory check for traps and then prepare to help the others cross when they are ready.

Kherim places a mailed hand against the wall as he leans over breathing hard from his experience with Rahotep's curse. Turning to regard Asterion, he nods, "My thanks Asterion, I fear my faith will need to be stronger against the foe we face." He then looks over to watch as Sol attempts to find purchase to cross the pit.

Ahi bends over Eilkhan, "With Neith's blessings I Heal you," Ahi whispers to her as he places his hand on her wounds. Then he smiles, "you are not yet for the duat mischievous one."

Ahi goes over to Kherim to check him over, "you okay?"
