"That sounds like a great idea." Sol adds as he moves out of the shrine, still holding the spear. He then puts his shield back on his left arm and draws his sword again to get ready for whatever happens next.

Kherim nods and waits for the others to step away then after resheaving his dagger, he splashes the coffin with oil from his pack. Afterwards he takes up a torch and with grim purpose approaches the casket and touches the flaming brand to the carven wood.

"Let fire clean away the filth."

The ancient wood of the sarcophagus immediately catches fire, and the flames hungrily eat away its substance, setting also fire to the wooden shrine that is built around it. It is clearly noticeable for everyone within the burial chamber, that whatever is inside is intensifying its struggle to break free of its confinement. While the sarcophagus is shrouded in flames, its rocking movements grow stronger and stronger.

The intense heat and the smoke finally force you out of the burial chamber and back into the foyer with its nearly 30 feet high ceiling where the thick plumes of smoke start to collect. Shortly after you have done this, a crashing sound can be heard from inside the burial chamber, and only seconds later a terrifying creature, ablaze with fire, emerges out of the smoke and flames.



It is a mummy, wearing a pharaohs' headdress and a grim looking golden mask that resembles the face of Rahotep like you have seen it on the many depictions here in the tomb. In its left hand it holds a pharaohs' crook that crackles with electrical energy, and in its right hand it holds a three-headed flail.

It moves with such an incredible speed, that its movements are blurred because of this. Before anyone of you can react, a mass of large glistening black scarab beetles spills out of the gaping mouth of the golden mask and comes swarming towards you.

OOC: I think that we don't need a combat map yet. Please state your intentions for the first round of combat. The scarabs number exactly seven - one for each of you.

Dropping his torch and drawing his rune-carved scimitar, Kherim Shah slashes at the dark beetle approaching him.

Sol will try to destroy his beetle while he waits to see if Ahi was successful in turning Rahotep's mummy.

Gaderon will cast Magic Missile from his wand at the scarab beetle;
I rolled 3 4s! Total of 15 damage to the scarab beetle.

Gaderon also tells the party to back off from the mummy as he wants to cast an area effect spell...its the only kind of damaging spell he thinks will work.



Asterion will try to hit his with his battle axe.

I rolled a 20! I rolled a 7 (+5) is 12 damage.

Ivid will shoot his first, magic arrow to the mummy, and then reload and shoot two other, mundane arrows at the, as he has them in his mind,nasty beetles.

He'll shout to Elmo to watch his feet and to hit the approaching scarabs with a stick or the sword, like golf balls...
