Around the corner you see the corridor continuing ahead until it rounds another corner about 50' ahead. To the right, closer to you, looms an archway.

"So, what do you think we go up to the archway and peer into it?" Kherim asks.
"Although we should be careful with traps on the way there."

Sol agrees with Kherim "Yes, but first I will try to detect whether it is magical or not. We have been burned on that before.
With that he will use his sword's ability to detect magic at will, to see if the archway is magical or not.

As Sol approaches the archway, Tizona indicates strong magic coming from there.

Sol says "I feel powerful magic coming from that archway."

Gaderon offers "Perhaps I can dispell the magic in that archway." With that he will try to cast dispell magic on it.

"Hey, wait.... Can we just look at it before?"

What do we see in the portal? Does Detect Magic give any other information, like aura and strength?

Tizona is unable to tell Sol about the kind of magic that it detetcs, but it can tell that it's strong. Moving carefully closer to the archway, you see a parallel running corridor on its other side, with clearly visible tracks leading from the archway to the right. They look like tracks from gholle, but you're not too sure about that. What's weird is that they seem to come from the archway, but the corridor on your side shows no signs of tracks at all.

Gaderon says "This archway reminds me of the one we went through where we were unexpectedly teleported into
the chamber where we lost Sol. Perhaps we should bypass it for now and move ahead. We can come back and deal
with it after we have checked out the rest of this corridor. What do you think?"

If Eilkhan doesn't lead the way down the corridor in her usual manner, Sol will step forward and cautiously start down the corridor toward the corner.
