Sir Clarence, I was not aware of your house rule, but my comment was not directed at you. I was speaking in general terms, as this is something I do feel about the game. When playing Eye of the Beholder, in some parts, I would rest for 2 consecutive days after a single encounter :-D

In my opinion, the way the rules are thought are still very much influenced (until 3.x) by the initial feeling of the game, in OD&D. Particularly in the basic game, the premise seemed to be 'you take a saturday afternoon out with your friends, and instead of taking the cows to graze in the fields or going to the fair in the nearest village, you go look that hole in the ground where strange noises come from. You return before dark, and so your whole adventure lasts less than a day, so all your powers are measured that way'.

I am convinced that the game drastically outgrew this concept, but some of the basic rules didn't.

As for your house rule, 6 hours is pretty reasonable, but what I mean is that we should feels it's alright to rest 6 hours after each 1 or 2 if the dangers faced meanwhile are severe.

I know what you wanted to say, Alex, but personally I greatly dislike these mechanistic approaches to the game because to me they spoil my vision of a D&D game world as a widely believable place and remind me more of computer games than anything else. If every second encounter nearly kills a group of heroes and/or drains them of spells, then they have to rest, annoying as that may be. Shortening the resting time to six hours was something of a compromise to me because it felt reasonable as you said.

Casting spells from scrolls:

This is more a channeling of magical energies than the casting of a spell that is memorized or has been prayed for. Therefore, any side effects that the casting of a certain spell might have, such as the dreaded system shock roll because of unnatural aging that has to be made when casting resurrection for example, isn't required when you cast the spell from a scroll.

Death's Door: Death comes at -10 hp. At 0 hp, a character is unable to fight anymore and collapses to the ground, but is still conscious and possibly able to drink a healing potion (but not to cast any spells!). From -1 to -9, a character is in a badly wounded and comatose state. From -4 onward, wounds - unless cauterized as from fire - continue to bleed for another 1 hp loss per round of combat.

That's true. But I actually meant something different here (sorry for being unclear): When badly damaged from fire, say a fireball takes you straight to -7 hp, then the wounds won't continue to bleed because I assume them to be automatically cauterized. I'm sure that someone knowledgeable in medicine will tell me this is bullshit, but it makes for a good rule IMO. :)
