Quote:In the late 20th century, a planet of roughly Jupiter's mass was identified in the system of a class G star called 14 Herculis. In the mid-21st century, as technology improved, astronomers discovered that the system also contained a collection of smaller planets, at least one of which might be habitable by humans.

Roughly four years ago, the research and survey ship I.S.S. Beagle set out to search for a habitable planet in the 14 Herculis system. After analyzing the system for only 3 months, the ship abruptly ceased communicating with Earth.

Robert Ender, owner of the independent salvage ship End's Run, set out to investigate, arriving two years later at the Beagle's last known coordinates. Ender quickly located the ship and, finding no sign of life aboard, began sending in the required applications for salvage rights. Shortly thereafter, End's Run also fell silent.

More a sketch than a real fleshed-out adventure, this is an exciting model for a game that goes beyond the usual D&D dungeon-hack.

The thrill of this game is the plot; the weakness that it is condensed into ten very sketchy pages, with many option left unexplored.

Also, the maps and the description of the starships - on which the action takes place - could be more detailed.

Most importantly, it should be noted that the connection that this adventure has to Blackmoor is by the use of the name Beagle alone;
a further link to the setting might be hinted, but certainly isn't spelled out.

Still, a short, good, inspiring read for d20 modern and usual D&D players alike, even though it's theme-wise a far call from whatever else you can find on the setting.

Yeah, there isn't much of a connection to Blackmoor here. It should be noted that the author, Mike McArtor, is a Mystara fan, and knew about the Beagle from Mystaran Blackmoor sources.

I like to see this adventure as detailing one of the adventures the Beagle had before it was taken over by Commander Riesling and eventually crashed near Blackmoor.
