What Editions Do You Like For Running Blackmoor? - Havard - 06-08-2019 We have a lot of new people coming into the forum, so I was thinking a poll would be useful. What editions and rulesets are you interested in when it comes to running Blackmoor? Please be respectful that people have different preferences and this place should be home to all things Blackmoor. -Havard Re: What Editions Do You Like For Running Blackmoor? - Zeromaru X - 06-08-2019 I only have the 4e core book and a few 3.x supplements, so I lean toward using 4e. I also inclined to adapt the stuff to 5e, given the chance. I have two of the DA books, but the rules are like Chinese to me, lol. Re: What Editions Do You Like For Running Blackmoor? - RobJN - 06-09-2019 It all began for me with DA1 & 2, so BECMI/RC/Classic D&D gets my first vote, followed up by 3.x and now (mostly-easy-to-convert-to) 5e. My "Other" vote is -- of course -- for Alternity, which powers the play by post. Re: What Editions Do You Like For Running Blackmoor? - Yaztromo - 06-14-2019 I run some one off game with BECMI, but right now (that I need a simpler system to have fun...) I use Advanced Fighting Fantasy 2e for my campaign (viewtopic.php?f=76&t=8800). I guess that in the future I may have to consider 5e, but... so far I managed without it. Re: What Editions Do You Like For Running Blackmoor? - aldarron - 06-16-2019 Heh, I voted against my own system. Mostly because OD&D is more campaign comprehensive while D@D is better suited to experiencing a few games. Because it birthed the '74 rules, Blackmoor as a setting goes together with OD&D, like bread and butter. Classic works nearly as well but nothing beats the flexibility and customize-ability of OD&D. Re: What Editions Do You Like For Running Blackmoor? - finarvyn - 06-19-2019 Most of my Blackmoor gaming took place years ago when OD&D/FFC was my only go-to rules set, but recently I've been running my group through a 5E version of the setting. I own all of the B/X and 3E Blackmoor products (I think) as well as the 4E book, but those are mostly used as resources rather than for their actual editions. Re: What Editions Do You Like For Running Blackmoor? - Darkworm Colt - 08-27-2019 We're using rules similar to the ones Dave used, and Bob Meyer is still using today to run Blackmoor. You can find the latest version on my blog: https://darkwormcolt.blogspot.com/2019/ ... ition.html Re: What Editions Do You Like For Running Blackmoor? - Havard - 09-05-2019 Darkworm Colt Wrote:We're using rules similar to the ones Dave used, and Bob Meyer is still using today to run Blackmoor. That is a great read You should add a link to your blog in your signature file so its easier for people to find it in the future -Havard Re: What Editions Do You Like For Running Blackmoor? - Sebcze - 01-22-2021 Im runing it with Ad&d 1st. Re: What Editions Do You Like For Running Blackmoor? - NeonNecromancer - 10-23-2021 Last time I ran a Blackmoor game, we used Adventures Dark & Deep which is an explicitly Gygaxian "2e" that was our preferred OSR ruleset at the time. I then houseruled it extensively trying to make it more like what I thought early Blackmoor games felt like...which eventually changed so much it basically ended up as a new set of rules entirely. There was actually a plan to publish the houserules as a supplement a year or two ago, but it fell through for a few reasons. |
